Exterior SidingYour exterior siding is vitally important to the curb appeal of your home. If you are planning to put your home on the market, you’ll need to take a good look at your siding from the viewpoint of a potential buyer. Oftentimes, we overlook wear on our homes because we see it every day and don’t notice it as much as it deteriorates overtime. Try to view your home as a new owner moving in — are there any problem areas that would raise concern for you if you were buying the home?

To assess the state of your exterior siding, start by going across the street from you home and viewing it from a distance. Are there any glaring issues that stand out? Can you see large damaged areas from the street or discoloring that takes away from the aesthetic appeal of your home? Can you see any warping or other damage that needs to be repaired or replaced? After you look at the siding from a distance, it’s time to do a closer inspection. Look for mold damage, dents, and holes.

As you inspect for damage on your exterior siding, take note of how much needs to be replaced. It is possible to replace small sections, so this could be a possibility if there is minimal damage. If more than half of the siding looks damaged or worn, it would be better to do a total replacement of all exterior siding.
